The Fourth Trebinje Energy Summit “SET Trebinje 2023” will be held from March 22 nd to March 24 th , 2023 in the Cultural Center Trebinje. The slogan of this year’s summit is “ Energy Stability of the Western Balkans”. The organizer of the event is “MH Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske”, the City of Trebinje and “SET d.o.o. Trebinje”, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Republic of Srpska.

“The general public is aware of the importance of SET and judging by the current number of applicants we expect a record number of participants this year. We announce the arrival of the largest energy companies from the region, and also the highest officials of the countries of the region. The goal and the mission are to gather all the relevant experts and talk about the current issues and problems in this area, and to look for solutions." said the organizer and the director of “SET Trebinje” Aleksandar Branković.

The Plenary Session –” Accelerating regional sustainability agenda and the clean energy transition – the role of EU”, as well as nine panels, are planned for the three days of the summit.

Panel 1: Development of the infrastructure of electrical networks and optimization of the interconnection process in the region

Panel 2: Prosumers in the region- legal and regulatory framework for support and treatment of small- scale generators with a focus on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems connected to the distribution network

Panel 3: How to cope with high energy prices in the region

Panel 4: The role of distributed production and flexibility services in the integration of RES and further development of the electricity market

Panel 5: Mechanisms for ensuring the energy transition for the benefit of all – results of the inclusive decarbonization project

Panel 6: Security of the energy sector in the field of measurement and transmission

Panel 7: Regional approach to energy supply (gas, oil, coal) during the energy crisis with reference to the decarbonization process in the region

Panel 8: Develpoment of electromobility in the region (smart charging, modelling aspects, changing infrastructure, distribution grid issues, modeling of E-mobility aspects, discussion and closure)

Panel 9: Operating reliability of thermal energy and hydro-energy plants during the transition of the energy sector in the region

The challenges

The trends of decentralization, digitalization and electrification present a great potential in the revolution of the electric power system. The increasing share of renewable sources in production of electricity, as well as their influence on the power system, set increasing demands on the accelerated development of the system itself. At the same time, due to ever increasing decentralized production of the electric power in the close vicinity of the consumers, or by the consumers themselves, it becomes challenging for the suppliers to meet the needs of the ever-changing supply and demand. As a consequence, the concepts and technical solutions such as energy storage, micro grids, demand adjustment and energy efficiency measures are increasingly coming to the fore.
